The Marion Boys’ Track Team won the 3A state track meet at Drake Stadium this past weekend. Blair Brooks, junior, won the long jump, high jump, was third in high hurdles, and third place in the 4×200. Myles Bach, junior, got first in the 3200 and the 1600, repeating his titles from 2016.
The boys’ team combined for a total of 69 points, outing Mt. Vernon, who they were neck-and-neck with the whole weekend. Even though the boys never won a single meet before this, they won the most important one, and are now state champions.
They are the first boys track team to win a state title is Marion High School’s history. “Winning the state title and accepting the trophy [was the best part],” Brooks said.
Blair Brooks is already looking forward to getting better for next year. “[I will] work harder and stay humble,” he said.
The boys will be commemorated tomorrow, May 23, at 11a.m. in the MHS Red Gym. It is a community celebration and everyone is welcome to come congratulate them.
