Track practice started February 14th, and freshman Karlee Walker is really enjoying it. “Track practice has been good, we’ve been working really hard and getting in shape,” Walker said. The girls’ first preseason indoor meet is March 7th at Wartburg. Walker isn’t sure what she is running in yet, but she’s guessing that she will possibly run the 800 and maybe 1500.
Walker loves running and ran a half marathon this past spring. “My favorite part about running is the feeling after a good workout or race,” she said. Meghan Greene, freshman, also runs track with Walker. “My favorite part is being able to run, be with my friends, and training hard,” Greene said.
The track girls are really excited to start racing, and they have a lot of confidence in doing well this year.
Sports differ greatly from middle school to high school. High school is much more serious and a lot of time is devoted to practices. Practices are a lot more brutal and take a lot of mental and physical toughness. “In high school track, they push you a lot harder, the workouts are way more intense, and lifting is added in,” Walker said.
Walker loves running and is ready to take on track this season with her friends and teammates.
