Bum! Bum! Bum! Her heartbeat seemed to match the magnitude of the drums. It was her first drum line performance, and this freshman girl’s adrenaline was pumping along with her arms to create that boisterous boom of her bass drum. She’s been doing this at every home game of the season for three years now and the same feelings come to her as if it was her first time.


Kylie Cimaglia, junior, has been a part of Marion High School’s drum line for the past three years and still gets a rush from every performance. “The performances at halftime really gets my heart pumping,” states Kylie. The drum line can be seen and heard during halftime of the Varsity Boy’s Basketball games sporting their signature sunglasses, getting the crowd excited.


Kylie, who is the team’s only junior, is enjoying this year’s team while she can. “Next year is going to be tough since I’ll be the only senior…and that’s some hardcore pressure,” she explains with a nervous smile. Even though the most experienced members will be leaving next year, the drum line still tries to enjoy them selves. “When we perform we’re all serious, but during practices we really like to have some fun and goof off a bit.” All in all, this team still works hard. “I put in about two to four and a half hours a week towards practice.” Dedication is big to this team in making a halftime show run smoothly.


Winter drum line’s ending will come when the basketball season ends, but they might be able to be seen at the state game like last year. “Last year, we were recognized and got the chance to perform during the 4A game at state last year. So it all kind of depends on if we get recognized again if we’ll be able to go again.” The basketball season is still going on, so there are some opportunities to get out and see Kylie and Marion’s drum line’s hard work.
