Clubs at Marion High School

Students+looking+for+an+activity+to+take+part+in+at+Marion+can+check+out+the+many+clubs+that+the+school+provides.
Students looking for an activity to take part in at Marion can check out the many clubs that the school provides.

The school year is just beginning, and with it comes lots of activities and clubs are looking for new members to join. There are many clubs and activities of all sorts at Marion High School, so there is something for almost everyone.

For the people who like to perform, talk, or musically act, there is speech. Speech is coached by Ms. Junge, and the first meeting will be in October. The first month after that will be spent getting organized, and getting sorted into your groups, along with getting scripts, and more. Rehearsals will be around November and December.

If you are a lover of books, Marion has a club for you too. The book club meets every Thursday in the library by the couch and chairs. The teachers in charge are Mrs. Mainardi and Ms. Champion. Students involved get to vote on which book to read, and every week they talk about what has happened, and our opinions on the chapters. The first meeting will be on Thursday, September 6th, 2018. But you can join after that just talk to Mrs. Mainardi in the library.

If building and programming robots sounds like a good time to you, robotics would be a good fit. They have already had their first meeting, but if you’re interested, you can still join since they are just starting.

GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance), is a student-run club that provides a safe place for LGBTQ+ students and their allies. This club is for support and to be informed more about the community. If you choose to join, know that confidentiality and respect are huge parts of the club, and if you can’t abide by them, you will be removed from the group, and, depending on the situation, have other consequences. They meet Mondays in Mr.Trilk’s room from 3:05-4:00 pm.

Anime club takes place Tuesdays after school from 3 – 4:30 in Mr.Voss’s room. They usually watch 2 episodes a week from an anime. They also debate what character would win if pitted against each other.

Creative Ink is a student-run group where all students are welcome. It has been the school’s literary magazine for 34 years. Creative Ink members meet Tuesdays after school beginning the final week of the first term and ends at the end of term three. There is an annual writing contest held during term three as well. They focus on poetry, graphic design, photography, drawings,  and prose.

If none of these clubs interest you, you can create a club of your own. Just talk to a teacher, and the office!
