Buckling up for state

Yesterday the girls basketball team defeated Boone 46-38 in the first round of the state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The girls will play Pella in a rematch of last season’s state semi final Friday back at the Well at 11:45am. Once again, the pep bus will be available for students to ride down to watch the girls attempt to make the State Championship game Saturday at six pm.

The pep bus is a great choice for a student who doesn’t have transportation to get to Des Moines. The cost to ride is free but it is $10 to sign up, to pay the cost of a ticket for the game. To ride you should bring some items for the ride. First, make sure to have money. It will be a long day if you don’t have money to purchase a good concession item. Next, have a good friend along with you. A friend who’ll keep you company and someone to sit by, just in case you have to double up with someone. Third, headphones! If one doesn’t have a good friend to sit by, bring some headphones to listen to jams on the ride. Fourth, anything to keep one comfortable. The bus can be uncomfy and a blanket or pillow can help. It can also allow for a needed nap after waking up for the 8:30am ride.

Why should a student take the pep bus, or even go to a state game? For Matt Brase, sophomore, it’s not his first choice. “If you don’t have a ride, it’s a good alternative,” he said. There are benefits to the pep bus. “It’s cheaper because you don’t have to pay for gas money,” Brase said. Much like Brase, Avery Manderscheid, sophomore, says a benefit of the pep bus is saving money on gas. Also, Manderscheid says it can be a good choice because it’s free.

If a person doesn’t have a ride any game and a pep bus is offered, take it and go cheer on our Marion athletes!
