Thanksgiving break is finally here, it might not be the longest break from work and school, but it’s still time off for a special holiday. Thanksgiving is a time to spend time with friends and family and to look back at all there is to be grateful for in life.
Thanksgiving is always on the fourth Thursday of November. The very first Thanksgiving was in 1621 between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans that lasted three days to celebrate the harvest. Now it’s a one day event where families get together to give thanks for what they have.
Along with Thanksgiving, some people participate in what’s called “Friendsgiving.” Friendsgiving is like Thanksgiving but instead of getting together with family, a group of friends get together and have a meal to show how thankful they are to have the people in their life. Friendsgiving is also good because it’s basically another Thanksgiving meal, and who doesn’t want two Thanksgiving meals?
Another big part is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The parade is full of all different floats, inflatable characters, performances, and celebrities. On Thanksgiving day at 9am,in all time zones, on the NBC channel, the Macy’s 90th parade will begin.
For people that like shopping and getting really good deals on items, the day after Thanksgiving is something they look forward to all year. Black Friday is a time when almost all stores have a lot really good deals and sales on a lot of their products. Black Friday is also a good time to start getting Christmas gifts because the prices on most stuff is much lower than it usually would be.
The main thing with Thanksgiving isn’t the food or the big sales the day after, but it’s to be thankful and to enjoy the precious time spent with friends and family. Happy Thanksgiving!
